Walking Tour: MÉRIDA OLD TOWN AND MARKET
Tour description
This tour is an invitation to walk through the center of Mérida, a place that has witnessed centuries of history, from the ancient Mayans to the Mérida of today. It's not just about seeing beautiful buildings, but about understanding what lies behind them: the stories, the people, the contradictions, what gives this city its soul.
We'll walk through streets where every corner has something to tell. I'll tell you about the ancient city of Tihó, the colonial era, the rebellions, the mixed race, but also about everyday life, about how people live today.
And then, the market. For me, the Lucas de Gálvez market is the heart of it all. Everything beats stronger there: the colors, the smells, the food, the people. We'll walk among rare fruits, herbs with curious uses, food stalls not mentioned in the guidebooks, and unique characters. We're not rushing, we're not here to buy souvenirs: we're here to look, to smell, to taste, to understand.
If you're interested in getting to know Mérida from a real perspective, from what isn't always shown, this is the tour for you.
Nothing formal, no rush. Just you, me, the city... and whatever happens.
