Amsterdam: a journey through history and charm
Tour description
Discover Amsterdam on Foot: A Journey into the History and Culture of the City
After the success of our bike tour last year, this year we invite you to explore Amsterdam differently with our exclusive walking tour.
Why Amsterdam?
Amsterdam is not only renowned for its picturesque canals, picturesque houses and unique charm. It is also known for its liberal culture, which ranges from tolerance towards marijuana to the famous Red Light District. These elements perfectly represent the pragmatic and liberal spirit that characterize Dutch culture.
However, Amsterdam, historically a city of merchants, is also a place steeped in history, marked by significant events such as the famous Golden Age and the Second World War, during which the moving story of Anne Frank is intertwined. It is a city where bicycles are an integral part of daily life and the characteristic houseboats add a unique touch to the urban landscape.
The tour
Starting from Dam Square, the historic heart of the city, our walk will take us through some of the most significant places in Amsterdam:
- Rokin: A major street with a fascinating history.
- The Bejinhof Courtyard: An oasis of peace and history in the heart of the city.
- The Flower Market: The only floating flower market in the world.
- The Canals of Amsterdam: a UNESCO heritage site that tell centuries of history.
- The Nine Little Streets: A quaint neighborhood with unique shops and cafes.
- The Jordaan District: One of the most loved by residents, with its artistic atmosphere and postcard views.
- Westerkerk and Anne Frank House: Monuments of Dutch history and culture.
What to Expect
During the tour, we will make numerous short stops to admire and discuss various points of interest. Our goal is to offer you a complete and fascinating vision of the city, touching on historical, cultural, architectural, urban and religious aspects. Without delving too deeply, we will give you as complete a knowledge as possible of the stories and peculiarities of Amsterdam.
The walk will last about 3 hours, at a not particularly fast pace. At the third stop, the Bejinhof courtyard, if it is particularly crowded, you may have to wait a while to enter, which could prolong the tour by a few minutes. In cases where there are actually too many people or the tour time is not compatible with the opening of the courtyard, I will illustrate Bejinhof through photos, and you will still have the opportunity to visit it every day from 9.30 to 18.00.
