Hi, my name is Ante. I'm a teacher with MA in history & sociology, and recently a tour guide. During my time at university, I wrote a thesis about medieval Šibenik and Dalmatia. I recently got a tour guide license and would be very happy to share my knowledge with the people visiting my hometown.
This 1.5-hour walking tour with a historian and licensed guide will reveal you Šibenik – one of the best-preserved cities in Croatia. With MA in history & sociology, born and still living in Šibenik, Ante will tell you everything you need to know about Šibenik's past and present.
This tour starts at the lower entrance into the City's Park (Perivoj Roberta Visianija); in front of the monument of Croatian king Petar Krešimir IV. On this tour, you'll see the main attractions: Poljana (main square), a replica of the 1895 city lamp (1st in the world to receive public lighting on alternating electricity), St John Church, fortresses, Medieval Mediterranian Garden of St Lawrence, St James Cathedral (UNESCO heritage site since 2000) as well as other interesting sights (Greasy Street, Medieval dog's watering hole and many more). The tour ends in front of the Rector's Palace (now City Museum) near the beautiful Riva Waterfront.
Because of his teaching experience, Ante will enforce dialogue and provide much more personal contact. He will not only answer your questions but also pepper the tour with all sorts of interesting facts like major plagues, fires, and sieges that the city went through in its 1000 years of history. In that way you'll get to experience the city in a fun but also educational way.
I will be in front of the monument (Spomenik hrvatskom kralju Petru Krešimiru IV) with yellow hat and guide ID
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
