Hello. I am a Brazilian architect and urban planner who is delighted with urban tourism on foot. What I love to study is what I like to live and know when I'm on a trip, public spaces at the level of people. I already had the opportunity to visit many cities in some countries and that has led me to create my own free walking tour service in my original city, Fortaleza. When I'm not an architect and urban planner or a local guide, I love going to the movies, good food, anime, heavy metal, board games and having fun with friends.
FORTALEZA'S CITY CENTER TOUR
The city center of Fortaleza is where it all began in this part of Brazil. During this tour, we will pass through many historical places and present you historical, cultural, interesting, and also funny facts related to the city's development, slavery, change of habits, architecture, gastronomy, and nature. If you are attentive, maybe you can get a caramelized cashew nut in our quiz!
This tour takes around 3h30minutes and you'll practically not notice the passage of time. With many stops in a 3,0km walk, no one gets tired and at some point, we make a refreshing stop to drink delicious natural juices.
We'll meet at Fortaleza's Central Market to discover:
This tour started at the end of 2018 and thousands of people have walked with us, always sending great reviews. To do something you love with quality is something very important for us and we are sure that you will enjoy this moment too.
Book this tour and discover Fortaleza in the best way!
I will be by the side of PlanetaTur's kiosk with a yellow umbrella. This is just after entering Mercado Central de Fortaleza by avenue Alberto Nepomuceno. Very easy.
This is the biggest place to check handcrafts and souvenirs of Fortaleza and Ceará. Here is where we are going to meet at first and later you can get even more information of the city at Casa do Turista (Turist House). The place also includes restaurants, bathrooms and ATM.
This place is a military building with a free admission museum of the beginning of the city. One of the main landmarks of the city center.
The main church of the city. It has neogothic style and is 75m tall.
A recognized touristic landmark, this shop has many traditional foods that can be tasted with local music and drinks or bought to be prepared at home.
The cultural center of a brazilian public bank. Here we have art gallery, library, theater and an intense cultural programming.
One of the most comfortable and relaxing squares of Fortaleza's city center. The 3 lions there are what really caught attention, even having much more to see and discover.
The heart of Fortaleza. A mandatory stop to better know the city, this square has more than 150 years of history and hosts many other interesting places to visit.
This cinetheater is one of the oldest street cinemas still standing. After closing doors as a private cinema, it has been restored and reopened as a public equipment for everyone.
Estação das Artes (Art Station) is a cultural hub made in the old city center train station of Fortaleza. Since 2022, it host a space for events, the train museum and Ceará's Design Institute. In the surroundings we can visit the art gallery, the tourism center and the gastronomy public school.
The tourism center hosts many handcrafts and souvenir shops just like the Central Market, but here we have a more cozy, historical and relaxing place, besides the fact that many sellers also produce the products they sell. Here we can make a quick stop to have a delicious natural juice to recover our energies.
The last stop of our tour, from here you can relax looking to the sea, visit the Museu da Indústria, Santa Casa da Misericórdia Hospital or even taste delicious food in Café Passeio. The official name of this place is Martyr Square, but the reason for this we'll discover only during the tour.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
