Free historical tour of Cadiz Special Carnival Edition
Tour description
These days we will be experiencing the Carnival copla competition at the Gran Teatro Falla (COAC) and at the beginning of March the streets of Cádiz will be filled with street groups singing on every corner, so what better time to, in addition to learning about the fascinating history of this three-thousand-year-old city, also learn some interesting facts about the most famous festival in our city and which best reflects the idiosyncrasy of the Cádiz character.
On this tour you will have the opportunity to learn in more detail what this festival consists of, where this tradition comes from and you will visit some key places of this celebration.
But Cadiz is much more than its carnival and is surrounded by a fascinating history. Did you know that in the 18th century we were one of the most important commercial ports connecting Europe with America? But many centuries before, Phoenicians and Romans raised our city to prominence and their legacy still lives on in the streets of Cadiz.
During our tour we will review the past and present of Cadiz, from its most glorious years as a Roman city, through the arrival of Napoleon's troops, the promulgation of the first Spanish constitution and some of the consequences of the Civil War in Cadiz and especially in the carnival.
