Pont d'Avignon

The Avignon Bridge, also known as the Pont Saint-Bénézet, is an iconic medieval bridge built in the 12th century that once spanned the Rhône River. Originally stretching nearly 900 meters with 22 arches, only four arches remain today, leading visitors partway across the river. Known for the famous French song “Sur le Pont d’Avignon,” this UNESCO World Heritage site is celebrated as a symbol of Avignon’s history, offering scenic views and a glimpse into the city’s medieval past.

Avignon is one of the few French cities to have preserved its city walls. Constructed in the 14th century to protect the city and the Papal residence, these well-preserved walls stretch for over 4 kilometers and include numerous towers and gates.
