Free trekking tour around Meriga and hamlet + Meriga Dam Route
Tour description
La Palmita is a neighborhood located in the north of La Gomera, belonging to the municipality of Agulo (one of the most beautiful towns in Spain).
The neighborhood is a scattering of houses in a peaceful, rural, agricultural environment. Surrounded by a large forest area, which is increasingly gaining ground due to the growing abandonment of crops.
Much of the Mériga area where we will walk belongs to the Garajonay National Park, one of the areas where you can observe a great variety of Laurisilva.
The first part will be done on a track completely inside the mountain, then we will reach a viewpoint where we can see the neighboring neighborhood of Los Aceviños, we will continue down a track but this time with lower vegetation but that will allow us to enjoy panoramic views, such as almost the entire neighborhood of La Palmita, Aceviños, and the Great and Majestic Teide (if weather conditions allow)
We will continue down a beautiful path that will take us to the Serpa area, where the farmhouse area will begin. In this area we will see an old "era" for threshing cereal,
The last part will be to cross a rural path, where we will be able to appreciate the agriculture and rural life of the area.
The first part of the route is about 6 kilometers, it could take us about 2 hours to 2 and a half hours (no rush)

Meriga Dam:
Can you imagine an Amazon on this small island of La Gomera? Yes, in the neighborhood of La Palmita, we have the Meriga Dam, a small reservoir surrounded by authentic and wonderful Laurisilva, which, due to its curvature, takes you to the Amazon itself.
There are times of the year when there is no water due to the lack of rain, but the place remains just as spectacular.
The start would be from the Meriga grove, a small parking area, in which many of the trees that we find along the Garajonay are detailed with names, nearby there is also a small ravine and a picnic area for a snack.
The route between the start and the return is about two kilometres, suitable for all audiences (adults and children) but not suitable for those with reduced mobility.
On the walk we can see the impressive Laurisilva, one of the best preserved on the island.
Comfortable clothing and footwear, water, and a coat in cold weather are recommended.
The estimated time is about 45 to 1 h 30 min depending on the viewing time of landscape photography and so on.
The total number of routes could take about 3 hours or three and a half hours.
