Carandiru History and The Open Museum of Modern Art
Tour description
Sorry to my participants.
My tours will be closed due to the pandemic, and here in Brazil we still have other problems with the H2n3 flu, so I prefer to wait a bit to come back with many special things.
This tour deals with the surroundings of a very famous old prison here in São Paulo and became known throughout the world for the famous film Carandiru (2003). The tour explores the history of the issue of incarceration in Brazil, which is mostly composed of black people. I like to explore history and social concepts, so I go through some aspects that make these numbers grow here in São Paulo. The tour also deals with the transformation of the building after the prison was closed. The decision to transform this space from a symbol of repression and for incarceration was taken by public administrations to create a new area dedicated to knowledge and learning about the mistakes of the past. In addition, this itinerary includes a unique glimpse into the urban art of São Paulo with a short visit to the nearby open-air museum of Urban Art by the penitentiary museum. Places we will visit: - CARANDIRU filming site - The Former Penitentiary Youth Park, - The MAAU-SP São Paulo Open Museum of Urban Art - The Penitentiary Museum
