Essential Mombasa Free Walking Tour

We are thankful for having Humphrey guiding us in Mombasa. Very friendly and professional person.

The walking tour is interesting and mostly outdoors so be prepared in case the sun is strong. Also quite important to mention that Fort Jesus only allows entrance by paying through ecitizen. The guides are helpful in this aspect but it's handy to have smaller bills.

Humphrey was very knowledgeable about the history of Mombasa and provided quality information throughout our tour. The tour was 3hrs and he also made sure we safely arrived at our final destination after the tusk visit

He is really helpful and also he took us to shops that had affordable nice stuff, I enjoyed the old town tour, took us photos, he paid for our tuktuk when my friend looked like she can’t walk anymore 😂, overall he made the experience nice .

Humphrey was accommodating as we had to cancel day before due to a accommodation nightmare and his knowledge was amazing and the tour itself was awesome. A few things to not rate 5 stars: 1) when at spice market my mother negotiated a price with the one vender and then when she went to pay he tried changing the price. Our guide did not defend or have our backs on this. Since this is a place of buisness he takes the guru walkers too he should choose more appropriate vendors or have our backs in situations. 2) there is no information that we will be using tuk tuks. We LOVE tuk tucks and have no problem but it should be mentioned to bring cash for them, it could have resulted less of a tip or not being able to use them if we didn’t bring cash. 3) at the end of the tour we were giving him a tip and mind you I have travelled around the world doing walking tours I know the cost and what is reasonable. The guide proceeded to state “ do you know the process of guru tours it’s suggested for 20-30$ tip “ something along these lines. Which I tipped this guide more then I have in other tours and I already spent 400 schillings using tuk Tuks everywhere with no communication prior. It was very poor professionalism and very greedy of the guide to suggest more money after the tip. At the end of the day it’s a free walking tour. Tips are a suggestion. I do recommend his tour but be prepared for tuktuks, spice market scam and to get talked to if you don’t tip to his satisfaction.

Hello Kim it was really nice to meet you, and thank you so much for your feedback, and your opinion,about tuk tuk we hired it because your mother she was tired after long walk and I didn't asked you to pay for the tuk tuk it is me need it pay it but you suggest to pay for it, about the spice market i can't interfere people's business because the charges or the price is written on the product you choose it to buy, to my all tours didn't have anyone complaining, about to buy anything you want it is your choice to buy or to leave it. About the tip it is not me it is about Guruwalk says that small tip for the Guruwalk it 10 pounds up 50 dollars depends of satisfaction, anyway Guruwalk sometimes have many challenges, their some clients need to use Guruwalk whatever they want after tour which is not good.
