The tour already started off on a bad note when our guide insisted us on giving at least 100Q before he even started the tour. It is a tip based tour, so you can give how much you want, so it felt kind of awkward and rude to tell people how much they SHOULD give. When a guy left early and have 50Q, the guide told him to go to the ATM to get more money since the 50Q ‘wasn’t enough’ in his opinion. Felt really unprofessional. That’s when I decided to leave. The information provided so far was in very broken English and only about the interior of different churches. I was hoping on more about Antigua itself. Definitely wouldn’t recommend doing this tour.

I first discovered guruwalk in Portugal this March, took two walks there, both were wonderful, and both hosts not only speak flawless English but also are knowledgeable and funny, I learned a lot from these two walks. So I decided to try a guruwalk in Antigua, after seeing the good reviews I booked Alfredo’s guruwalk. However when I arrived I noticed he looks different from the photo, so I asked him, he said he’s Alfredo’s dad. Hoping he’d be as good as the Alfredo described in the reviews I went on the walk. But he’s not good. His English is not fluent and his vocabulary is limited, it’s hard to understand him. And the information he provided was not interesting either, overall I didn’t learn much from him. Despite that, I did appreciate his effort, so I finished the walk and still gave him $15 per person. Please be whom you claim to be, or at least be as good as the person whom you claim to be.

When we arrived we found out that we had the father of the guide. The tour was very poor, mostly information about history and in bad english. He didnt tell any interesting stuff and was only interested in the money. He started the tour with saying that you should think about a right amount of money to offer and at the end he told that it was mandatory to pay 100q. Really horrible and it wasnt worth it!

The guru showed zero professionalism, complaining about the money he received at the end and attempting to force people to the ATM to withdraw more money to give him. You might not always get the amount you feel you deserve but that’s no excuse to behave so terribly, so bad was his behaviour that one of the ladies felt pressured to hand over all the quetzales she had with her. If you are not willing to accept that some days you will not make what you feel you deserve just charge for your walking tour and don’t offer a ‘free’ walking tour.
Response from GuruYou were the only one that left an offering in the tour. You left 2 dollars. Are you willing to work in London for two dollars? By the way GuruWalk suggest a payment of 10 dollars to 50 dollars at the end of the tour.

We stayed at the starting point for 40 minutes before moving. Underwhelming and lack a common thread
Response from GuruWhat a shame Eamon! What a shame! Please read the description of the tour, this is a history tour, by the way you didn’t notice there were two tourists carrying their bags, I told everyone I change the tour. Now act like a grown up and pay the tour. You left with even saying goodbye and your were all the time at the phone. You have the contact of the community manager, set a place with him to pay the tour.
