Best things to do and see in Lima
Lima is the capital of Peru and is one of the most surprising cities in this country even though it’s not the first choice of most tourists. The city doesn’t have all the attractive cultural attributes that Nazca or Cusco have to offer, but there is a large number of monuments that are worth visiting, along with its gastronomy with a wide range of references from Creole and Peruvian cuisine. Public transport will let you get around the city with ease, even if they aren’t the most modern bus lines.
If you are going to visit Lima, we recommend that you get a guruwalk and discover the city with a local guide who can show you the local culture and history and get you the most out of your time there. There are many routes that will show you those must-see spots that you can’t leave Lima without seeing, such as La Plaza de Armas and the Historic Down Town with the city Cathedral in the middle of the square, and the Casa de la Literatura Peruana on the outskirts. Another iconic place you have to see in Lima is San Francisco de Lima’s Basilica, and while you’re at it, go to the park Parque del Amor to get some of its beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, or just walk by the Barranco Neighborhood. Last but not least, you should also check out the market Mercado de Surquillo, to get something tasty!
Other travelers who have already done a free walking tour in Lima in the morning, afternoon or night have left their user reviews about their tour guide and the route they did on the guruwalk page. Other cities that might be of interest for you to do a guruwalk are Medellín, or Arequipa.
