Before the tour starts, Swan (Martin) will send you a slightly awkward message asking you to confirm that you understand there's a minimum tip of $10. Yes, it's a bit unusual—no other free tour I've done around the world has done this—but don’t let that put you off. (I actually saw someone mention they were turned off by this, so maybe Swan could consider rewording it.) That said, this is an experience you won’t regret. After doing many free walking tours in different countries, I can confidently say this one ranks among the best. I honestly didn’t expect a city as under-the-radar for tourists as Phnom Penh to offer such a great tour, but Swan really blew us away. He was so engaging and knowledgeable that we immediately signed up for his Khmer Rouge tour right after. He knows a lot—seriously, the man is a walking encyclopedia on Cambodia. So just go, enjoy, and soak it all in. Phnom Penh is awesome!

Excellent tour from Martin, he’s very informative and full of information on the history of his country. 5 stars, with 4 stars for the ‘Entertainment’ category, simply because the tour we did was not necessarily meant to be entertaining. (Killing fields and Genocide are not subjects of entertainment,) Martin is a great guide, highly recommended.

Great introduction to Phnom Penh as someone who has little to no clue about Cambodia even as a Southeast Asian. Walk is mostly around the city center. None of the people in the group wanted anything from the night market so that could have been cut short. Otherwise, I have learned a lot and Martin is quite entertaining and fun.

Martin is a very talented tour guide with lots of knowledge and passion for the history of his country. I would highly recommend having a tour with Martin if you want to learn about the dark impact the Khmer rouge has had on Cambodia with his very good memory of exact dates. The driver was also great, offering us cold water after each stop.
