During our travels, we often join free walking tours to learn more about a city from a local. But the guide we had in La Paz was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. When we walked up, she didn’t even say hello, and she looked so angry that it made us uncomfortable. She especially directed accusations toward American tourists, and on top of that, she acted as if we had no upbringing and were some kind of barbarians. She looked so furious — it felt like a school trip with an angry teacher.

Risposta di Alpaca steps:
Thank you for sharing your perspective. We will leave this review visible so future travelers can see that experiences also depend on how visitors choose to behave. to clarify what really happened: You arrived late to the meeting point and did not greet anyone or say “sorry” for the delay. When I asked for your name the answer was “we already know each other,” which made it difficult to proceed with the group. Several behaviors created discomfort ignoring instructions, talking over explanations, walked into restricted areas, and interrupted explanations by switching to Spanish because you were not following the English instructions. There is a reason this tour is offered only in English—to maintain order and respect for the group and the locals we interact with. These actions showed a lack of awareness of local culture and basic group etiquette. You mentioned “ accusations to Americans,” but at no point did we refer to Americans in a negative way. The explanation was about a Bolivian president who fled to the U.S., and how that political moment affected the country. If this was misunderstood, it once again shows that you were not fully following the English explanations. You mentioned it felt like being with an “angry teacher”—and you are right in one sense: it felt like guiding schoolchildren who ignored basic respect. We are here to show our city, not to teach basic manners. Respect is mutual: the way travelers act in another country often shapes the way they are treated. We encourage future travelers to respect local spaces, cultural norms, and the people hosting them. That always makes the experience better for everyone. Our tour is designed for travelers who want to learn, listen, and connect respectfully with our city and culture.
