The guide gave me fascinating insights into the history and development of Barrioche, enhanced by his own biography as the son of a Swiss immigrant. He showed us key buildings in the town that illustrated the successive periods of development before and after creation of the national park. It was very interesting to be shown the German « ghetto » and to learn of how Erich Priebke lived openly in the town until 1996, acquiring a distinguished position in the Germanophone community (vice-consul?).
