My name is Tom and I am History Swiftly. I am a U.S. history teacher in a local, suburban school district and am passionate about teaching history and sharing that love of history. Over the last 20+ years as a teacher, I’ve taken students from Quebec City to Boston to Gettysburg to Annapolis to Washington. Philadelphia is always a favorite tour. I enjoy sharing all of the wonderful history and fun Philadelphia has to offer and offer recommendations on how best to see the city!
Thomas, a middle school history teacher and tour guide did a fantastic job. His knowledge and teaching skills were in full display with facts and dates rolling off his tongue effortlessly. He kept us engaged with trivia questions (and Starburst)! He also had great recommendations for Museums, Reading Terminal Market and other Philly attractions. Amazing walking tour and guide - Tom was easily the best GuruWalks guide I've experienced. Highly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, entertaining, and hospitable (with hot tea provided for the group). Interesting tour route. Outstanding experience overall - do not hesitate to book!
This was a great tour of Philadelphia history and my favorite Guru Walk I’ve ever taken! Thomas included many details into the tour which made the experience above and beyond. He had Starbursts for when we got a history answer right (or even when we were close!), hot tea for the drizzly day, and ponchos for when it started to rain. Beyond the obvious care and preparation he puts into making sure everyone has the best experience, he was a wealth of knowledge about any of our questions and took us through many great Philadelphia highlights, giving us historical context about those places I wouldn’t know if I was just walking around on my own. Highly recommend this tour!
