The guide never introduced himself by name but he made it clear he was a foreigner. He wowed us at first with all he knew about the history of Malaga and even took us off the beaten path to show us the monstrances and more (so intriguing!!!) but as the tour continued he quickly devolved into talking about the war in the Gaza Strip, due to the religious connections and more. It became uncomfortable because he didn’t stop and even tried to lighten the moment with a religious joke but it wasn’t funny- just inappropriate. We came to learn about Malaga. Also, we never actually made it to the Main Street to experience the music and light show. We hoped he’d explain about the story behind them and the projected brick show on the tower. If he stayed on topic, it would likely have been awesome because it until then it was great.

One can tell from the starr that Angel loved his city of Cordoba. He was enthusiastic and taught us so much- about the history and present day. He showed us many highlights and helped us understand. We felt like we better understood the city and were better prepared to enjoy the rest of our time there.

The guide spoke English well and we did have an odd start because a few people didn’t pay attention and lost us but the guide didn’t seem to identify as a local (despite living in Cadiz since his teenage years)- and that came across in the tour, he kept saying he is still learning, he didn’t know, etc. He wasn’t fun and lively like other guides but at least what he knew was interesting. I expected to see more of the Old Town together. Also, he gave some information-saying the Clock Tower costs money to go up but it’s included in the visit to the Cathedral and said the Tavira Tower was free to go up but it costs 5€ or 7€ with the camera obscura, and he didn’t say you need a reservation for the camera obscura so when we returned it was too late to get to experience the camera obscura. It is obvious that this guide is new and still learning.

We attend walking tours in most cities we visit and this was the best walking tour we ever experienced. Miguel was funny, passionate about his city, and he involved all of us with questions and candy rewards for correct answers. We didn’t expect earphones but what a nice touch to ensure everyone heard him. We are spoiled now and will have to work hard not to compare future guides to him. He is a natural storyteller! Don’t miss a tour with Miguel as part of your Sevilla travels.

Our guide had a sense of humor (often referred to it as joke land) and was informative. Our trip to Malaga was richer thanks to all we learned on this tour. Make the time to take the walking tour- so worth it!
