Firstly, we always do free walking tours and tip well at the end. But be warned this is not a free walking tour as advertised or as you would expect in other countries. There is a lot of pressure to tip $10+ (and are sent a message before telling you this - should have been a red flag for us!) we have never seen this before, especially as the quality of the tour was low and what we felt was extremely expensive for value compared to the cost of pretty much anything else in Hanoi. The group was large, the main tour guide took 16 people and sent 4 with another guide (the group of 16 was too large, it felt this was a greedy move to ensure more tips for him) We want these tour to be exploring and either fun and/or historically engaging, we got none from this. It felt a wasted 3hour. Our recommendation would be to self guide, or pay for a proper private tour. This tour felt like a cash grab/con for unsuspecting tourists - we literally spent 5+ minutes at a convenience store being explained to what it is and how it is cheap - the route we took should have been sub 1 hour when only relevant info is included, not 3. Do yourself a favour and skip this.
