I recommend that you book with a different tour guide if possible. I reserved this tour with a big group and before we even began the tour, the tour guide told me that each person must pay $10 minimum. So I was confused and told him that I thought you paid at the end of the tour based on the quality of how everything went. And he straight up no. And he told me that the minimum is $10 USD. So after meeting with my group, we decided to rebook with a different company for a different day as we all believed that anyone who required a minimum payment to do the tour probably wasn't a good tour guide to begin with. And yes, we know it was only $10USD. But for us it was more about the principal than the money. We had people in my group all the way from the USA, Colombia and Jamaica coming to see this beautiful country. The tour guide didn't even say hello to my whole group let alone introduce himself to them. But the first thing he asks me is about the tip requirement and the preferred group language.
This tour was very fun and definitely an eye opening experience. On the day that I went, there was only two of us so we had plenty of time to ask all our questions! We asked questions from politics to culture and education. Luiz always gave very detailed and well thought-out responses which we appreciated. We also both were curious to try some of the local food inside the favela so after the tour, Luiz took us to this nice buffet style restaurant and the food was AMAZING!! Luiz was very professional, funny and a cool person to be around. I 100% recommend this tour with Luiz. 😇✨
