Hi, my name is Haktan. I am a licenced tour guide, a teacher, an ethnographer, a storyteller and a game developer. I have even done some open mic stand up comedy. All of these experiences make my tours fun, engaging and informative.
I traveled to 30+ countries joining free walking tours whenever I had a chance and collecting the good practices of other guides. I studied in the USA on a Fulbright scholarship and taught at different universities so I know how to capture and hold people's attention when I tell the incredible stories of this amazing city.
If you read the reviews about my tours you'll see the word "funny" in almost every review. I don't want to brag about humour but let me tell you this much I once made a whole group of Polish people laugh 😎.
Last but not the least, The Guardian published an article about my tours.
I use audio headsets during my tours so you won't miss anything even when we are walking and talking.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Haktan
My tour with Haktan was my third GuruWalk in Istanbul. This was also my third visit to Istanbul, one of my favourite cities on Earth. Haktan's tour from Topkapi Palace to Üsküdar was THE best walking tour I've ever done in Istanbul. Haktan is energetic, extremely knowledgeable, entertaining and knows how to keep one's attention. If you're tired of the worn-out, boring, scam-filled Taksim and Grand Bazaar, look no further: a true Istanbul immersion awaits you on this comprehensive and fascinating tour. HIGHLY recommended. Teşekkürler sevgili Haktan!
Haktan was a very good and professional guide. He had lot of knowledge and he was funny too. However, this is NOT a free tour. You have to pay at least 15 euro per person.
Great experience, a guide with impressive knowledge and fantastic English, full of humor and great stories.
We had a great time with Haktan, it was actually our second tour after the old city one which we also recommend (I guess the fact that we booked the second tour with him speaks for itself). He’s very informative and has great sense of humor. It was great to see the less touristic side of the city and beside the highlights Haktan gave us some additional information on what to see, where to eat, etc. We’ve learned plenty about your highlights but also about the country and its history. Surely a must do in Istanbul!
