My name is Diego Escobar Castro. I’m a former school teacher, a father to a curious 5-year-old boy, and a proud ambassador of my city. I am also the founder of *Better with a Teacher*, a project created for travelers who want to truly understand the history, culture, and unique character of Santiago and Chile.
I have cycled more than 6,000 kilometers throughout Chile—across the Atacama Desert, the Carretera Austral, the Elqui Valley, and the Cajón del Maipo—as well as parts of Argentina. I’ve also completed numerous hikes around the country, so I’m always happy to share recommendations with anyone seeking outdoor adventures.
I completed my studies in Valparaíso, where I trained as a tour guide. Because of that, I love sharing the local stories, heritage, and hidden gems of that iconic port city to help visitors appreciate it even more.
Due to the growing popularity of this tour, I’m no longer able to guide both Spanish- and English-speaking groups simultaneously. For that reason, especially during high season, I am primarily dedicated to the English tours.
Please note that *Better with a Teacher* also includes other qualified history teachers—**Fabián, Felipe, and Melissa**—who are passionate experts and wonderful ambassadors of Chile as well. If you choose a tour in Spanish, one of them may be your guide.
All the best
Diego Escobar Castro.
Diego was awesome! So knowledgeable and friendly, really gave us a great insight into some of the important Chilean history. The sights we walked around were amazing and he easily connected them to the history of the country. He also was able to share recommendations around the city to visit after the tour. Would definitely recommend a tour with Diego, and hope to go on one of his other tours soon!
You need to do Diego’s Tour. After having travelled 14 countries in Latin America and done walking tours in them all, Diago’s is hands down, THE BEST! His delivery style, his knowledge, his recommendations. 10/10! Sign up to his asap.
Diego was succinct and was filled with very in depth historical details and very patient. Was also very inquisitive with guests and a very good resource for current hours of operation, local events, and recommendations at large.
