Of all the walking tours we’ve done this was the only one we regretted. My husband had difficulty keeping up with walking sticks - lots of climbing up and down and left in the middle of nowhere to get back on our own.

I'm sorry you had trouble keeping up with the group, but as I'm sure you noticed, I waited until everyone arrived to start the comment. As I'm sure you noticed, Funchal is a very hilly city. If you want to go around, there's going to be ups and downs at some point. I'm sorry you didn't read in the description that there would be up and downhills.
