I had been on the French Concession walk with Bill earlier in the day so I knew that the food tour would also be extremely good. Bill is friendly, intelligent and very knowledgeable about Shanghai having been brought up in the centre of the city. He took us to different styles of small, cheap restaurants serving local food with menus only in Chinese, consequently as a tourist, it is very unlikely we would have tried them. Each restaurant specialised, The first was noodles with eel and vegetables, followed by a restaurant specialising in dumplings. The crab and pork were absolutely delicious. Then onto the duck restaurant where we tried duck tongues and glass noodle soup with vegetables and different cuts of duck. Finally, we walked to the Muslim district where the minority Uygher population live and work although we were too full to have a kebab. I thoroughly recommend going on Bill‘s walks. He is entertaining and totally professional.
