We’re professional guides who, by fate, changed our location but never changed our calling.
Our love affair with Bilbao might seem accidental to some, but it’s far from that. We first came here many years ago as tourists. The city immediately captivated us — the history, architecture, nature, people, the mystery of the Basque culture, and the uniqueness of the language. We fell in love with Bilbao at first sight and didn’t want to leave.
We dreamed of staying to live here. Back then, it was just a dream, and no one imagined it would come true.
During our long separation from Bilbao, we didn’t waste time. We learned Spanish, traveled the world, and even founded Anglotourismo, which has earned four quality certificates from TripAdvisor for our walking tours.
When it was time to choose a new place to call home, we knew right away that Bilbao would be it. And the city embraced us, revealing even more of its beauty and fascinating stories, which we’re eager to share with you. We’re also proudly holding a Master’s degree in Contemporary Culture and Arts from the University of the Basque Country, which gives us a deeper understanding of this unique city.
And that’s why we are the ones who walk like locals.
My guide Mike was very friendly from the start. He showed interesting sights and peppered his presentation with bits of history, architecture, culture and personal insights. I was also encouraged to ask questions. I enjoyed the walking tour very much.
To me, it was a very special experience to walk through St. Petersburg with Michael and Olga, guides from Anglotourismo. St. Petersburg is the city which I have planned to visit, but due to COVID-19 pandemic my flights were cancelled. Fortunately, I have got this unique opportunity to join the guided tour right the same day my departure was originally scheduled. Remotely, but with the virtual "Being There" effect, we had a decent walk, stopping by the city hidden gems. Michael as a local resident and a professional guide provides you not only a comprehensive historical background and architectural heritage introduction, which of course are closely intertwined in St. Petersburg, but also current views on the local society, education, multicultural kitchen and even music. It gives you a live taste of the city and the citizens' everyday life, so I highly recommend to join the St. Petersburg Off the Beaten Track On-line Walking Tour!
Such a great walk! Misha (the guide) was fun and informative. The pace of the tour was perfect. I loved that the walk took us not only to the major sites, but also through courtyards and ordinary living areas. Many beautiful buildings, and all of them have a lot of history.
Wonderful, intimate tour conducted by a professional couple of guides who obviously know and love their city and its history. Following them around Vassilievsky island, through the labyrinth of its yards (impossible for tourists to discover on their own) was exciting. The university neighborhood is spectacular. It was nice to be able to hop into a few cafes, pastry shops and a music club along the way. I would recommend this tour for those who would like a little taste of the city they have never visited, but also for those who have been there and want to discover St. Petersburg’s hidden treasures. Thank you, Mike and Olga, for showing us a piece of your beautiful city!
Thank you for the lovely and insightful tour which showed us a corner of st Petersburg we wouldn't have otherwise seen. It was a pleasure to listen to the experienced guide and we would recommend this tour to everyone.
