I booked an evening tour of Merida. It turned out to be a rainy evening, but we still wanted to do the tour so walked 30 minutes in the rain to the starting point about ten minutes early. The guide was not there. After waiting a few minutes, I went to message the guide and saw a message from him asking where we were. I responded that we were at the starting point waiting. My husband and I separated to have one stay in place and the other check several surrounding areas, but the guide was not there. After about fifteen minutes (and finally a message back saying that the guide was exactly where we were standing), we left the starting point. As we were heading to a new location, we found the guide at a completely different landmark. We told him we were there for his tour, and he said it was 15 minutes late and that he had been at the starting point. Then he said he was waiting inside a third, different, local landmark. Finally, he told us that unless we were willing to change the language of the tour from English (which we booked) to Spanish (which we don’t speak fluently), it was cancelled. This wasn’t communicated before the tour start time, or ever, other than in person from the guide after we tracked him down- it seems like the guide was trying to make it seem like we were late or didn’t show up, when really he didn’t want to go out in the less than perfect weather. Very disappointing.
