We got to meet Fatih again on this tour and learnt more about the different communities that lived in Fener and Balat. It was interesting walking through the neighborhoods and hearing the stories of how people lived. Fatih was very knowledgable and also shared with us some of the similarities between Judaism, Christianity and Islamism. We saw some signs and symbols on the houses along the streets too and got a glimpse into how the communities back then used to live. It was a nice walk with Fatih despite the rain.
We had a superb time walking around the city with Süley, he is so knowledgeable and told us many interesting bits of information not only about Izmir but also about turkish culture situated in the larger context of the nation’s history and founding. Learnt a lot and experienced some aspects of local life too through the coffee and the snack break. Thanks a lot Süley, you’re the best!
